Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share a couple of pictures from my first outing with my new brick. I'm very happy with this lens, and believe I got a sharp copy.

Unfortunately, no ducks, but I was able to find a couple of Canadian Geese that were willing to pose for me!

Both shots are aprox 50% crops

Was an overcast day, so the lighting could have been better, but all in all, I'm pretty happy!

Canada Geese not Canadian (they are named for Roy Canada instead of the country). Nice pics! What's a brick?

Sweet deal man. I think that goose caught you takin' pictures and wondering what's up with that. I can't wait to get a Brick and hopefully it'll be by the end of the summer. Need that 70-200 first. I love the constant reassurance of this lens' performance.

Yeah, they did seem to be pretty interested in what I was up to! Started out with only 2 geese, and about 10 minutes after I started shooting them, another showed up and started cauding trouble, chasing the other 2 off if the came to close to him.her. Will post more as I precess them.

70-200 is next on my list. I had my friends Sigma 70-200 with me at the time as well, and it did an equaly impressive job!

snajczuk, thanks for he info! Must be Canadian slang then, because I've always heard them refered to as Canadian Geese when they are in groups! You learn something new every day! A Brick is a 24-70 2.8 L

Cool info, I did not know that either...who/what was Roy Canada and why did they name them after him?

I would like to see your sources for this information. I googled "Canada Geese" and cannot find it in any reference thus far.

According to Wiki, Canadian Airlines (now merged) used this goose as the logo on the tail section of their planes. So they were also named Canadian Airlines after Roy Canada ?

I found a reference to Ol' Roy Canada dog food. Perhaps that's where the geese end up.

Your gonna love that lens. I've only had mine less than a week, and I just quit taking it to bed with me.

Congrats on the brick! Will be getting one in the immediate future but for now have to settle for the 70-200 2.8. Really like the 2.8...just need something wider for so many things.

OP is in Canada so they could be Canadian - Canada Geese.

Who is Roy Canada? Is he Canadian? And here I thought the goose was named after the country....

Nice shots... And it is the 'Canada Goose' as the true name, as for how it got that name, I cannot find a valid source for that.

Yeah, Canada Geese is fine, but to me they will always be "Canadian Geese" as they are taking residence in my fine country!:p

I'm going out with a Bride that I'm shooting later this summer to do some test shots tomorrow! Stay posted!

Canada Geese were named after Roy Canada?
O-kay. Probably by the same guy who named the Polar Bear after Ralph Polar....
And oh ya, to the OP, congrats on the lovely hunk of brick!

I found a site that may hold the answer but you have to be a member. I don't feel like signing up.

Wikipedia had some good info, but no origin. Odd how thing started as a simple "I got a Brick" which sounds like a negative thing, and into this whole where did the Canadian Goose get its name?

Nice shots... And it is the 'Canada Goose' as the true name, as for how it got that name, I cannot find a valid source for that.

I was also not able to find any source of the naming, however, Wikipedia and other sites state the following:

"The species name, canadensis, is a New Latin word meaning "of Canada"."

I couldn't find anyone by the name of Roy Canada on the internet, nor another misconception that it was named after a man named John Canada.

We may have to have some of the shooters from the Birding forum give us some insight here.

Congrats on the lens.

And in case anyone is wondering, "The Brick" is not named because of either the 24-70's dimensions or its weight, but is in fact named after famous photographer Stan Brick, who popularized the lens in the '70s. The Commodores wrote a song about him.
