Hi there,
Thanks to a fellow photographer I managed to get a media pass for rounds 4,5, & 6 of the British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham yesterday.
Rockingham is a really hard circuit to get any decent shots from unless you have accreditation as much of the track is well away from the spectator areas.
As well as the BTCC there was the Clio Cup, Seat Cupra's and Porsche Carrera Cup.
This was only my second time shooting with a media pass and as many of you may know most of my shots are panning shots but I tried to get some more magazine type pictures this time.

Please have a look at the pics and pass on any comments and criticism.

Hope you enjoyed yourself, I've not actually seen any coverage of the BTCC this weekend.
What gear were you using (body/lens(es))? If I were to suggest one thing then it would be possibly to try and use a shallower depth of field - to bring the cars away from the distracting background.
My favourite of those shots would be of the 3 Clios showing the racing line into the corner. Did you have a chance to go to the fast chicane (first corner I think off the banking) - from what I remember there was usually some good action there!
Cheers

They don't use the chicane at turn 4 anymore.
Good pics though, I also prefer the clio pics.
I do disagree that Rockingham is difficult to shoot without a media vest (although the vest definately has it's advantages!).
If you do a bit of homework, you can get some reasonable shots from public areas. I took the shots below from public areas yesterday.

Excellent pics!
I'm working for the RS Owners Club national day out in august @ Rockingham, we have a BRSCC day ( I think, don't qoute me) there sometime soon so we can get our bearings and work out some locations as we've never been before.
We have passes for the day so should be looking for similar spots to those you chose ;)
Thanks for posting, saves me asking now lol

The RSOC day is a club national day out for the RS Cosworth and RS Turbo boys, which is the morning part of the day, then in the afternoon the track is handed over for a BRSCC leg, the exact name of it I am unsure of, sorry :(
Had a phone call this evening whilst I was in the pub of all places, turns out our reccie day for Rockingham is this Sunday (29th) it's apparently also a BRSCC day (unless anyone in the know can tell me otherwise lol) but we have free passes for trackside so will no doubt be posting some tasters over the weekend ;)

Tomorrow's meeting is the first SCSA (Nascar style) meeting this year. Go to the site below & it shall give you more info.

I shall be there taking pics. & public areas to take good pics are as follows :-
Full Oval Races (SCSA V8 Trophy & Pick Up Truck Racing)
1. Pit garage roof at either end to get shots of the cars in turns 1 & 4.
2. Again Pit garage roof in the centre to get panning shots of the cars (usually side by side) over the finish line.
Infield Races
1. They use the last part of turn 4 & all of turn 1, so the above applies to the infield circuit racing also.
2. The fence on the outside of the exit from the Tarzan corner.
Also, all of the drivers are quite friendly & approachable, with the paddock area being very accessable for the public (within reason).
Looking at the meeting programme for August, they have some Ford Saloon car racing on for the day, including Fiestas. I think I shall take the Fiesta ST instead of my company car that day.
Anyway, enjoy your day & hope to see your pics here (hopefully you will also be back at what is a fantastic motor racing facility (no, I am not affiliated in any way with the circuit, I just enjoy taking my son there for a goods days entertainment).
