Sciaridae sp. of fly with unwelcome passenger though i'm informed it wont be a parasite:

Good catch racketman. I have a similar shot that looks like the same type of parasite:

They sure are small, aren't they?

I hate you guys... with your... super duper lenses... and perfect shots... :(

;-) Just Kidden, but seriously, awesome shots, both of you! I'm here thinking that a close-up of a fly was amazing... here you guys go taking pictures of a PARASITE... I mean damn, great shots!

Excellent shots RM and AB :) Looks like some kind of mite? I haven't noticed this on any of the flies that I've shot, but maybe I should be looking a bit closer ;)

Excellent capture RM- these flies have amazing eye structure- always reminds me of Medieval Knight's horses. Last Autumn virtually anything moving near my compost heaps was carrying passengers sometimes rather over-loaded.

BTW thought these were Scatopse Sp. ?

Diptera.info reckon Sciaridae sp.of fly. Have to admit that good as my close up vision is I didnt notice the mite in the field. If its only hitching a lift I wonder what its actual host is?

Can I play? I saw the aphid twitching but didn't realize why until I saw it on the monitor.
