Which pic do you prefer ?

Couple of shots of an Ichneumon wasp I took Yesterday. I was slightly suprised at the viewing preference on Flickr - which shot do you prefer ?

I prefer #2 myself.

Both excellent shots, although they look a little bit dark on my monitor, darker than your posts are usually.

both are excellent shots Brian, I prefer photo one, the texture of the plant gives the wasp a sense of scale.

Both great but slightly prefer #2 shame you clipped his antenna though.

It was a very dull day yesterday and this Thuja fir tree lights up very badly with flash- think that's the explanation :)

Both excellent as usual Brian. I prefer #1 but only because in #2 the antenna are a bit lost in the dark background.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I preferred #2 even with the clipped antennae but the peeps on Flickr seemed to like #1 which suprised me.

I agree with Martin. The diffuse bg and the pose in 2 are nice but the wasp is partially lost against the dark bg.

I prefer the angle and DoF in #2, but unfortunately the antennae are not very clear due to the dark background, and on of them is cropped off.. so I'd go with #1

I had made up my mind before scrolling down to see the answer, but #1 was my preference, although they are both very good.

Reason for #1 was the fact it was lighter and to me, gave a clearer view of the wasp.

#1 for me, prefer the setting, nice depth.

I prefer #1 for the better background, #2 has a nice pose but with the clipped antenna and darker background take away from an otherwise perfect shot.

They're both good Brian, But leaving all technicalities aside, I prefer the look of #2. ;)

Have to admit #1 was accidently taken at F14 from a previous shot so does have more depth.
