Haha, no he's standing on a garden candle lantern by my pond, he just landed there. I think it's bird poo splatter or something he's standing in.

Not overly Dave, they do seem to walk the other way if you get too close even when copulating but, I haven't had one that just flies off on approaching.

Interesting. Some shield bugs I've seen will run the other way as soon as you look their way, others area ok.
