Had a play with one today, it is now on the 'to do' list :D
Not 100% sure on the format though, strange to hold, also quite a small screen, but not really that much smaller than the G3 it will replace or my 20D.

Video quality is good for this category (compact digital camera).
Wide screen 16:9 video is a plus point.
May have slow focus during zooming.
Video in AVI format. File size is big.
50 second of 640x480 30fps SP video file size about 100MB.
4GB SD Card can record:-
30min of 640x480 30fps SP video.
55min of 640x480 30fps LP video.

I'm considering this camera as a birthday present for my wife. Is there any way to display HD movies on my HDTV except through the camera hooked to the TV? I don't think most DVD players support the TX1's file format and I'm not ready to spring for a BluRay player (and a recorder) yet.

I found a short sample on a review site of the widescreen, better than any videocam I have played with recently!

Not sure if Nero can go the business, it can convert just about anything to DVD including these files, there may be a resolution drop on the DVD though.

Has anyone put the video from a tx1 on DVD I'm trying right now and Nero won't do it.

How you trying to put it on DVD? DVD as file storage device or playable video DVD? If the latter, Nero may be choking over the excessive resolution of the TX-1's video. Try something closer to normal TV resolution.

TTT,
I am dumping my 850IS for the TX-1. I am wondering if this is a good idea.
850IS takes better pics than the TX-1?
But the TX-1 is a better movie camera?....my main use is filming. So is this a good trade?

If you mainly want to do movies, why not get a HD video camera? That way the bells and whistles you're paying for will at least be appropriate for your primary use.
