Hello,
Complete newbie with Macro chiming in here. I got myself a second hand Canon 100mm Macro lens a few weeks ago. Wasn't too happy with my initial attempts and realized that Macro photography is a different beast!
I did some research and found LordV's homemade diffuser post and decided to make myself one, paper towel and all.
All I have to say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
(And no cuts on my fingers!!!)
I'm pretty darn happy with the results I'm getting so far. (5D, 100mm Macro, 580EX mounted on the camera, LordV diffuser)
I am looking for C&C...am I headed towards the right direction?

I have to get myself some Kenko tubes.
I can see how Macro photography can get addicting!
I am looking for all kinds of stuff around the house now!!!
The Canon 100mm Macro lens is FANTASTIC!

Thanks everyone! Good to know I'm on the right track.
I can already see it will be a challenge to find worthy subjects. It's funny...now I think I might start embracing "bugs". (Except bees...I can't stand bees!)
Well maybe not "embrace"...;)
Can't wait for some of the flowers to start blooming.
I ordered the Kenko Tubes set. Hopefully I should get them soon.
Just a quick question. I have the Canon 1.4x TC. Using that and the Kenko Tubes in some kind of combination, how much magnification should I be able to get? I already find myself wanting to get closer!

Hi, can you share the link to Lord V's diffuser post. Tried a search but couldn't find it.
Thanks

Martin, try here:

Here's a direct link to Brian's flickr page with the Coca Cola diffuser instructions:

and I've converted that page into a PDF file for people's easy downloading/printing:

Yeah, it's a new discovery for me as well. I always knew I wanted to try it and when I had a chance to buy a used 100mm Macro, I went for it.
But it was only until I made the LordV Coke-can diffuser that I really started seeing good results. (Not that I've been trying for a long time before that...)
This just gives me one more outlet for shooting...now I can't wait until all the colors start to come out in the summer!!!
Photos look great! Wow, I want to try Macro photography now.

I really like 6 and 7.
Love how you were able to capture the air bubbles in the stream of water in photo 7.

Thanks!
I'm already realizing that at least for me, Macro photography is a whole lot of trial and error...and a little bit of luck!
I must have taken 20 - 30 shots of the faucet...and I only liked a couple of them.
Digital is a wonderful thing!!!
I really like 6 and 7.
Love how you were able to capture the air bubbles in the stream of water in photo 7.
