All,
Some of the people on this site ordered and have received their MKll's. It is wonderful to those that have ordered and for those that are not planning on getting the camera it may not be.
It would be nice if you could share in our joy and not be mean and post nasty things to those of us that are getting the camera.
If you find it so hard to read the post, please don't reply with nasty comments. It is not fair to those that are getting the camera, it is mean spirited and it is just plain childish.
Thanks NiL,

LOL..It is. It is getting worse and worse. People are being mean about those getting the MK's.
I just want people to be happy for us and not be mean, say mean things. It really isn't fair and it makes me not want to post and share my joy with others.
Sorry if this post offends, I just thought I would plead with those and try and find some harmony. The more people that get MK's, the more posts, the more the comments.
If I hit LOTTO, I will buy MK's for the 5 of the nicest people on the site that don't have one. Since a promise is and can be binding, this statement is true and I can be held accountable to it.
Until that day if ever it comes....

Nil,
I hope you enjoy the new camera. I got mine yesterday. I'm waiting to finish conditioning the batteries before I use it. (3 cycles of refresh and charge). It's a beauty. Don't pay any attention to the very few posters who would make enjoying a new camera a mortal sin. I haven't seen anyone brag about getting one, only sharing their joy at getting one.
Regards,
Scott

I won't lie, I would love to have a MKII but It would be wasted on me at this point in my photography career. I don't think it is a good idea to waste such a great piece of equipment on an amature.. Equipment is just a tool, The person/photographer is what creates greatness. I am somewhere between blurry and crap.. but Its getting better5. I'm pretty good with out door photography. I think having a 550EX over the onboard flash will help a lot.

scottbergerphoto,
I totally agree, I am so sensitive. But, thank you I hope you enjoy your MK as well.
BurningArrow,
You have always been ONE of my favorites on this site. Now, if you are one of the 5? Hmmmmmm.....LOL
I have been great, how about you? Of course you are not part of the 5, you are on a seperate list. You have been one of my best buds since I came to this forum, it would only go without saying that you would receive one.
No worries mate!!!
sp00g3,
I started this post to let those that are saying the mean things know that it is not nice, it can be hurtful at least to me (I am sensitive) and it just makes the person saying those mean things look small. Perhaps, if someone tells them how the unnecessary comments are making some of us feel it might make a difference. I recently found out on another thread, jealousy is a very bad green monster, this time I am trying the soft shoe approach.
My final thoughts are some can be jealous and say mean things, for each mean thing, there will be a new post about the MK. I am not going to be upset anymore, I can't change the world, at least not today. LOL
To be honest, I am not up to speed with my photography but I will be. I need the camera for things that I am doing that my 10D is choking on. I will be up to speed and I am going to have fun with 10D & MK for a while.

I agree fully. Sometimes I don't understand people. Others should be happy for others fortune, expecially those that they talk to on a regular basis. Even though I don't know you on a personal level, I think of all Canon Camera users as family.. :) People have different levels of sucess from others. I just want to see some posted pics.. :)

I came into this forum last summer. I was fortunate enough to not be aware of (or at least never affected by) any kind of caste system. As a 10D owner, I was only made to feel welcomed by the 1D/1Ds elite as well as the D30/D60/10D owners already on board.
When the Rebel/300D came along, it really opened up the floodgates of new users, and once again, other than occasional sniping about color and firmware upgrade petitions (most of it good-natured), everything remained peaceful.
Now comes the Mk II. It isn't the most expensive DSLR camera on the market, doesn't have the highest resolution, and to the unaided eye, doesn't produce images appreciably better than the two current 6mp models. So what's the fuss?
Nil has rightly observed that there has been a bit of 'testiness' by some of the people who don't share the enthusiasm of those who have ordered and/or already received their Mk IIs. It's hard to point to a single cause for this phenomenon, but here is a couple:
1. Jealousy
2. disdain for gloating
3. a combination of 1 & 2.
4. generally disagreeable people who just like to complain
I can’t think of any other reason.
I do admit to being jealous of certain things. Here’s one: my ability to purchase new and expensive equipment far surpasses my native ability for taking photographs. I see people with G2s taking pictures routinely that I would kill for. I doubt seriously that a Mk II is really going to help, but please recognize that by purchasing one, I’m not doing it for the bragging rights; I’m doing it because I want to take the best pictures I can. If there is anyone that doesn’t wish me well in that pursuit, then they’ve badly missed the purpose of this forum and the underlying attitude of all the folks who hang out here.
Editorial over.

Like many members here, I am one who saved my pennies and dimes to purchase a "mere" DRebel. I may never be able to afford or justify an L lens or anything higher than a 10D (or equivalent), but I enjoy reading about them and seeing the sort of photos that people can turn out with them. Yes, I suppose I can be a bit jealous of those who can afford such amazing equipment, but certainly not to the point of bitterness or anger. No matter what your hobby is, there will always be someone who has something bigger, better, faster, more expensive, etc. It's ok to want those more expensive items, but if it bothers you that others can afford nicer things than you then you will have a lot of trouble with nearly everything in life.
Just for the record, even if I could afford all the best gear, it would most likely be wasted on a beginner like myself. Right now I am satisfied with me plastic camera and lenses. Before spending a terrible lot on equipment, I first need to upgrade the eye behind the viewfinder. :D

Why jealous? Some day I'll get one. Perhaps I may buy used from your hands. Take good care of your camera and take good photos.

sp00g3,
you should definitely upgrade to a 1D and L glass ....
.... so that your photos will at least be between tack sharp and crap
Actually, I share your pain ...
Best regards,
Andy
PS: I really rejoice every time I read that someone has received his 1DMKII, L lenses, 10D or G5 ... and in the meantime continue to use my good old G2...

The bulk of the problem, as I see it, is #4. ;)
Anyway, I'm happy for the folks that are getting one or more 1D Mk II cameras. Somewhere down the road (way down the road....), I may venture into 1D territory, but I'm content for now with the 10D.

For the record, "GOOD EQUIPMENT" is never a waste, it is an investment. I am still a beginner and believe it or not I have learned much more and I am able to do more with the gear I have. Does "GOOD EQUIPMENT" make me a better photographer? No, "GOOD EQUIPMENT" makes me feel better and gives me more freedom to explore.
I say buy what you like and can afford and don't pass judgement on those that don't share your view.
I am happy and I want everyone to be happy too!!

I purchased my Digital Rebel about a month ago within the budget I set for myself. Do I wish I had a 1D MKII instead? Of course I do. But I am happy with my purchase, and I hold no negative feelings toward anyone who was lucky enough to have the latest and greatest.
I have been browsing this forum for months now, I am still amazed that more disagreements and ugly remarks towards one another haven't surfaced. Most of you have been so helpful and informative for all of us who strive for the perfect shot or the best equipment we can afford.
I think some people post those remarks in the interest of humor. We are all jealous in some way for the other guy who has all the 'L' glass, the 1DS, 1D MKII, and 5 10D's in his or her bag, but I think most of us are happy for each other. I am not trying to win points to be the top 5 nice guy, I am just happy to be here!

Well, I for one couldn't be happier for anybody who gets a new camera, regardless of which camera it is. The MKII looks like another great camera from the Canon stable and I sincerly hope that everyone who gets one really enjoys themselves (or for the pro's, earns better).
I do not begrudge anybody who gets the MKII or any other new toy as long as they can say it helps their photography or more importantly, it increases their enjoyment of photography*.

I have felt that I too have been welcomed by the members of this forum.
Nearly all the posts are helpfull and I enjoy the wit & humor sprinkled in.
While I have downplayed my limited digital equipment, I have tried to make contributions to the forum based mostly on my EOS 35mm experience.
I am close to ordering a MKII for myself, (contributions gladly accepted) in the meantime I wish you new owners well, and when I get mine I appreciate having this resource to help me get up to speed.
Frankly, I have no time for whining about things other than catastrophic equipment failures and operator error (with a little self deprocating humor).
If you want to be happy think about the things you have - not the things you don't have.
I told Cyberdine Systems I would behave badly in his absence. So here goes:

PacAce,
Yes it has!! WOOOHOOOO!!! I am charging as I type. This camera is OMG!!!!!
It is way too much for me but I will just have to catch up. I am done buying cameras, this is the one for me. It has all that I need. It is a bit bigger and tab bit heavier but learning all of the functions and settings will be a huge learning curve, one that I look forward to.
On to more good glass, "L" of course.
Getg3,
Hey buddy, long time no see. No, I did not WIN LOTTO yet but when I do you will be one of the first to hear about it.

It's so hard to be jealous without really showing it.
I've given up on the people who've had my order since the beginning. They don't know when they're getting any, and they don't seem able to tell me where I am in the queue. It could be days....it could be months.
I've gone ahead and ordered (prepaid) one from B&H. they're at least willing to tell me 2-3 weeks. I'd rather deal with that than 'We just don't know.'
Congratulations, Nil. That camera couldn't find a better neck to hang around.

I also notice the absence of the 17-40L from your impressive gear list ... one of your next things to buy or are you happy now with the 1.3 vs. 1.6 crop factor?

Andythaler,
Oooops!! I changed it, thank you for telling me. No, I have to say I am not happy with the crop factor however, I usually buy what is more useful to me. I was thinking about that lens but I really need the 85/1.2 and I am really starting to like prime lenses more than zooms.
Thanks again
