What settings should be used to photograph a moon eclipse?
I found some threads about shooting the normal moon and am wondering if the rule "sunny 16" also applies for when the moon goes into eclipse?

sunny 16 is still a good starting place but go a stop or so either way

Great I didn't see that one before today. The eclipse is tonight and sofar the weather looks ok with a few clouds. I just hope it won't start raining.
I got my 70-200 mm F4 L lens today so I will shoot with that.
In addition to that I have a 2X extender and I have borrowed a 100-400 F4.5-5.6 L so hopefully I will be able to get some nice shots. ( I now I have to focus manually with the extender on both lenses).
Any last minute tips?

Thanks, but unfortunately it looks like the clouds will ruin everything  but its not over yet the full eclipse should occur in 5 minutes and last for approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Man it is difficult to focus manually on a dark red moon.... I shot 75 photos with different settings and different lenses but most was completely dark and most of those where the moon is visible the moon is not sharp because I could focus properly :(
This is probably the best I got, not very good I think...
ISO 200, f/5, 4 sec, lens 70-200 mm F4L at 200 mm, manual focus.
+0.5 exposure compensation in PS.

Not a bad shot Tommy,, try ISO 400 next time,, a little more time and you will get a great pic.. There is just nothing to focus on so set to infinity,, its far ewnough away :D

It's not an eclipse, but I shot it tonight. f/8, 1/125, 1D Mark II, Sigma 500mm f/4.5.

That's very crisp and detailed, Scott. Tripod, I would guess?

Thanks Tom. I should have mentioned that. I used a tripod and gimbal type head.

Actually, now that I think about it, at 1/125 and 500 mm, I'm not sure why I even asked.
