g2 cracked after 27 days canon tec in uk said they had not heard of this probelm took camera back to jessops
who swopped it for new one canon uk still behind time?????

Your starting to scare the H out of the new guy! What is this crack that I've seen so many references to? Where is it, and what problems does it cause?

Or am I better off not knowing??

These photos below were originally posted in DPreview. I've forgotton who posted them but I downloaded them at the time and stuck them in a folder. I've cropped them and added the red box for clarification.

Many of us have cracks -- some of us have them in our cameras. Canon has responded fairly quickly and will apparently exchange the backs under warranty -- and everyone's camera is still under warranty simply because all G2s are less than a year old.

Both my G2s have the crack (you'd never notice it if you were out taking pictures instead of inspecting your camera with a magnifying glass). I can't be bothered fixing them right now but at least I have the option -- as would you.

Having said that, the crack has turned into a cavern for a few people as you can see from the second photo.

I have had my camera for two months and still no crack! Thank God! I don't use a strap because the G2 crack scares me. I was wondering how many out there have no crack? Lets here from the no "crackys" out there! Maybe this will help calm the fear!

PS...

...I got my camera at Circuit City and spent about $80 on a three year store warranty. If something happens to the camera they have to replace it. If the G3 comes out and they no longer can get the G2 they have to give me The G3. I hope my crack doesn't show its face until the G2 is gone and the G3 is here. Hopfully before three years is up.
