hi everyone,

its been a while since i been in here, been learning the in's & out's of my S3 and of course been practing alot with all the features it has to offer since the 1st time i join in here for information and help.

just thought i post a Half Moon shot i took the other day when i was outside with my daughter (she was in her sandbox) and i notice in the upper cornor of my right eye the moon was there, in the mid afternoon, clear and bright, and it was only 3 or i think it was around 4pm. so took my S3 out to take these shots with the Stock Lens & my Raynox 2.2x Lens.

handheld shot.. not perfect picture but nice..

enjoy! ;)

all images were 'image size' in Photoshop CS3 Extended..
180 dpi = 72 dpi
then crop to size, no other modifications were done to the image.

Enjoy! ;)

so took my S3 out to take these shots with the Stock Lens & my Raynox 2.2x Lens.

Those are pretty nice pics for hand-held!

I've been reading all over that the 2.2x Raynox TC doesn't work with the S3 ... apparently it can.

Would it be possible for you to take some more TC/non-TC pics of stuff with more detail (like trees or plants or buildings)? Thanks!

ALRemember - the moon's always having a bright sunny day. Start at around f/5.6 and 1/800 sec. at ISO 200 and go from there. Don't try to meter since all the black sky will throw things off.

Thanks for the info ... but I am confused with your metering comment. Are you talking about the white balance adjustment and to use bright sunny day one only.

Even using just optical zoom full and no digital did not give me satisfactory clarity.

I only have S3 IS and monopod, which is shaky with my body LOL.

Getting Sony teleconverter soon in the post.

This was my attempt. A640 at full 16x zoom (digital) with a 3x tokina tele lens and an ND4; followed by C.A removal in PT Lens and noise removal in Neet Image. It does the job, but I wish I could do better.

Nice shots :)

I'm also interested in the metering comment, as metering still confuses me a little.

ALExposure would also be for a bright sunny day. The visible moon's in full sun, even when it's at night here. White balance would also typically be daylight, but use exposure as if you were shooting at mid-day (as the settings I gave are).

just like Jon said, the moon is always having a sunny day, thats how i learn to do my 1st shot here months back, i was new, and my moon shots were burly until he post some advice on changes in settings for the correct exposure. ;)

What do you think guys .. what else could be improved ?

Was using Sony tele lens with full digital zoom and no tripod ... I surprised myself ...

I got it yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ...

I can now move on to another challenge ...

Well, turn off digital zoom. It does absolutely nothing that you can't do later in the computer, just throws away pixels around the edge and interpolates the ones that are left so the photo doesn't look so blocky. But you've nailed the exposure now.

Thanks Jon ... actually my mistake .. I was using the optical zoom as I have disabled the digital zoom.

I think I need tripod to get sharper pics cos I kept moving while I shoot the moon, I could see the moon in and out of the focus box.

Thanks for your hints.

Best regards
