I appreciate all the info on the lenses and I'm trying to make my final decision. What about the Canon 28-200 or Tokina 24-200 as a good take anywhere lens? Or would I be better off with the 28-135IS?

Looking at Photozone again, http://www.photozone.de/2Equipment/easytxt.htm#Zstd, both of the 2X-200's get terrible marks. I'd go for the 28-135 over those.
Canon EF 3.5-5.6 28-200mm USM 2.38 (2) = sub-average
Tokina AF 24-200mm f/3.5-5.6 AT-X 3.20 (3) = average
Canon EF 3.5-5.6 28-135mm ImageStabilizer 3.25 (5) = good
Have a look. These charts seem to accurately reflect the impressions I read in the forums and elsewhere.
