I have an SD900 and noticed when shooting in bright light, there are streaks of thin vertical stripes in the LCD which also show in the movie when shooting avi files. Just wondering if anyone else gets that.

Yup my A640 gets the same thing, I think it's either the light thats outside the ability of the LCD to display, or it's saying "hey, the white in this image is blown out, inscrease the shutter speed or gimmie an ND filter" !!

Well, along those lines anyway...

This happens in nearly every camera that has an EVF (electonic view-finder). it's normal, no harm done, don't use it to determine what will happen in the final photo. They never appear in the image saved to your memory card. It's a side effect of the LCD display system, nothing more. And no camera nor film will ever catch the full dynamic range of any scene (unless you use some extensive 16-bit HDR imaging methods). You will always have something lost when there are deep shadows along with specular sunlight.

You mention that they show in the movie, do they show when you play it back on your computer? Or do you just see them when viewing the image while recording the movie? I suspect you mean they don't show up in the final movie, only when recording, because that's the norm.

That's the "sad" thing. These "streaks" show in the LCD, but not in still photos, but when doing movies, I have some where the "streaks" also showed up in the movie when playing them back on my PC. I can't think of why there would be a difference between still and movies, but there is. If anyone else has the chance to film a movie into bright light, I'd be curious to know your results. :)
