Hi all,

With my girlfriend of 5 years living in The Dalles, Oregon, I've taken many a trip to the lovely Pacific Northwest. Last week, while I was vacationing up there with her, we planned a drive from Hood River to Bend. The drive was absolutely gorgeous, and gave me a fine appreciation for a different part of Oregon, aside from the picturesque drive through the Columbia Gorge (where most of my time has been spent). This also gave me the opportunity to shoot lots of different locations, but it's been slow going through all my shots... I took about 550, and I would've taken more, but I ran out of CF cards. Important lesson in never having enough of these!

There are a couple spots on the drive down (or up) where Mt. Hood appears out of nowhere, and it is awe-inspiring, to say the least! We got lucky and got it on a near-perfect day, with just a few rolling clouds that I felt accentuated the mountain beautifully.

The other shot is at the Crooked River Bridge, getting close to Bend proper. My girlfriend mentioned it as we were coming upon it, and I kind of pulled a dangerous maneuver to get over to the exit in order to stop here. I'm so glad we did! The 300-ft. drop was vertigo-inducing (I don't do well with heights), but we spent over an hour here marveling at the sights and learning about the bridge construction. Really cool place, although like most gorges, pretty windy!

^^^ Thank you! Your wife's quote in your sig sounds a lot like what I heard my girlfriend telling me when I was leaning over the walls to capture the shots at the bridge. :)

Yep, both good. Although I think I would have preferred the right side of the bridge to be included.

Good shots. I love that area, too. Will visit again this summer.

Thanks, everyone -- I appreciate the comments thus far.

Yeah, I agree. I have other shots that are more inclusive/balanced, but this one struck me because of the way the shadows (both from the bridges and the clouds) worked in conjunction with my polarizer. I was a little limited on what I was able to include in the picture as well, since there is a wall that blocks some of your view, unless you're brave (or stupid) enough to lean way over it to get your shot. I'm not great with heights to begin with (300 ft. is a long drop!), so I decided to play it safe. :)
