I'm a DSLR user. Got no idea about digital compacts. I'm gifting a couple a friends the IXUS 900 Ti, could someone tell me what the Optical equivalent of the 3X zoom wud be? I mean...the range..u know...like from __mm to __mm??

3x doesn't tell you anything by itself. A 35-105 would be a 3x zoom; so would a 100-300. The Ixus900/SD900 has an optical zoom equivalent to 37-111 mm in 35 mm. (around 7.7-23.1 actual mm).
