hi...

For my 300d, what are the pros & cons of the above 3 remotes?

I have been led to believe the following:

RC5 gives a 5 sec delay and cannot be used for bulb exposures

RC1 gives 2 sec delay or instant and can be used for bulb exposures (2 presses)

RS60E3 is essentially a wired shutter release button, instantaneous

BUT... the RS60E3 wouldn't let me release shutter remotely (e.g. for a group photograph)

AND...would a wireless remote cause the mirror to lift up BEFORE the shutter is released, simulating mirror lockup, and avoiding shake? This might be useful for e.g. astrophotography through a telescope.

OR...should I just bite the bullet and buy both? In which case, RC1 or RC5?

And why won't the WR-DC100 from my G2 work? And can I program y HP 2210 PDa IR port to do the business?

Thanks
Nigel

I'm no where near as familiar w/ the 300D as w/ the 10D which I have.
I can only speak to the RS-80N3 which is for the 10D. The RS-80N3 is basically the same as the shutter button on your camera except it is now on a thether and you can step away for the camera dn still take pics. It is the same speed as the shutter button as well. Being that the 10D and 300D are semi similar in this instance, you can used the shutter release to shoot group pics with you included if you're fast enough...like 10 sec after hitting shutter release. It is on about a 3' extention cable and I have found it invaluable when taking pics of the moon with the monster lens. It definitely reduces the shake when taking moon pics/night sky pics. I have yet to try the 10D mounted on a telescope. I have to wait for nicer weather here in England. It was raining really hard most of the day and nights are overcast. If you wanted to get really fancy there are IR shutter releases that I think are really slick and work thru the hot shoe. Now you got me wondering about hte hot shoe on the 300D. I must say that the raised flash on the 300D is slick as on the 10D it isnt and you get dark spots where longer lenses cast shadow and flash never reaches. I'm working on getting a stroboframe to eliminate that. Hope this helps.

No more opinions on RC-1 vs RC-5 vs RS-60E3?

Come on, somebody must have used them.

Please?

RS-60E3 works fine.

Next question?

I just bought the RS-60E3e Saturday and so far it's great. It operates exactly like the shutter button except you can lock it in place and hold the shutter open however long you desire in bulb mode. I originally intended to get a wireless remote, but the local shop didn't have it and the worker there told me that with the wireless you had to use the timer. ??? I'm not sure if that's true or not, but I have my doubts. :D

The RS-60E works fine but is limited by its short cable length.
Cablesandconnectors.com has an inexpensive solution. 6', 12' and 25'
extension cables for $4.59, 5.59 and 7.99. with $6.00 shipping to Phoenix.
Received 3 days after ordering. I ordered two 25' cables to give me 50' for some wildlife photos. Worked great... PN for the 25 footer (55-920-25)
