It's amaizing how much better a jug of beer can taste that a cup of coffee - or at least you might think so.

Nice and crisp. I always try to "read" photos. Well, I think the 2 men are related- but I cannot figure out what the one guy is saying or thinking about the guy drinking. The coffee guy has a strange look on his face and I cannot tell what it is... do tell!

Beautiful B&W. Was it shot in B&W in camera or converted in post processing? What method?

I heard Finns are the biggest consumers of coffee in the world. Is this true? I never understood this, since the population was relatively small about 5 million, but i guess it could be based on cups, per person, per day or something??

It is a really great picture, wonderful light and tones in this grey-scale image.

Haven't heard that, but I wouldn't doubt it :)

My Grandfather was full Suomi, and I'm from Seattle originally....so you KNOW I love my coffee :D

These two are brothers (;)) and my friends, they have used to see me with camera so they didn't pay any attention on me. Can't remember anything specific of the discussion, this was pure candid. The picture is not very recently taken but I just yesterday had a closer look at that and I liked it.

Thanks all! About the coffee, yes, I believe we are drinking more coffee per capita than in any other contry, but on the beer list we are only 9th ... (Some statistics *here* (http://earthtrends.wri.org/text/energy-resources/variable-294.html) and *here* (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_beer_consumption_per_capita) for those who are interested - like me.)

Miyagi-san, the coffee bars in Seattle are great! (You must still have some Finnish words in you vocabulary.)

Pleased to know you liked it, nqjudo. This was originally color shot, which at first I simply desaturated. The result was dull and flat, so I first time used *Local contrast enhancement* (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/contrast-enhancement.shtml) technique to B&W shot - and that worked well. Finally, a very modest touch of burning and dodging.

Man, coffee it is for me! I love coffee, I wonder if there are any home roasters on this board.

Olli, it has been some time since I have seen any of your work, and I say this is one of your best yet. great range of expressions, great tonal range! I like the slight vignetting too, goes well with this pic. What conversion method did you use? They seem to be comfortable or oblivious to the camera, great capture!

This is a really great human interest picture. The expressions are excellent - although they can be intrepreted differently.

My interpretation:

The drinker (with a far away look in his eyes) is thinking, "hmmm, not sure about this one".

The watcher is saying;, "well, how is it?"

Frankly, one of the best I've seen in a long while.

Frankly, one of the best I've seen in a long while.I like your interpretation, Glenn. That could be very close to what these guys were really thinking.

You are all wrong. Two college students. One bet the other one that he couldnt finish that glass of beer in one shot.

Love this shot (is that because I love beer?). Great expression on the coffee drinkers face. And the beer drinker seems so satisfied.

"Um, waitress, I'll have what he's having, please."

Nice Olli and so sorry we couldn't meet up when you were over here. Next time!

Those two look like they would be your friends. I dunno why. Are they husband and wife? I guess the one on the right is the wife. Do all Finnish women have beards like that? The beer looks weak and flat :-( They need some London Pride inside them!

Olli

Well they are Finns, and all Finns are friends (we are so few). Most of Finns go to sauna, so we don't need that much hot waxing (as maybe in England ...), but obviously this sheman has not visited sauna recently.

I tend to agree about the beer, but shoud that be Spitfire?

That's candid photography at its best.
In fact, given your proximity to the subjects, it's quite a miracle the image is so "candid'.
A great photo, Olligraph.

What a delight to see you visiting UL, Mr. P., and a humble thank to you for your positive feedback. Yes, I have to agree with you about the indisturbance of the proximity. These gentlemen were masters of concentration.
