The organizer of a local Vocal contest asked me to snap some shots last night for the paper.

The lighting was horrible (it had a blue tint, for what reason I have no idea. and it was also terribly harsh) but here's a few snapshots that I came up with during the two hours of performances (excuse the watermark, I realize how easy it would be to remove, I just like having it on there incase people use them for myspace etc.. ):

I like #2.
I don't like #5.
A few of the B/W ones are too light / hard IMO: The whites and /or skin blow out... Apart from that, nice captures.

Thanks for the comments guys. I know that some of the photos are pretty harsh, but I was having some difficulty balancing the shadows and highlights in processing.

I'd try using Spot Focus, aiming on the eye....especially when shooting upward, as in pic. #1...Pattern Metering gives an overall focus of the body, but when shooting upward, the head is furthest away, and ends up out of focus...

Overall, nice composition and framing of subjects ...

Pics 3, 5, 6, and 8, didn't load...all I got were "x"...

I like 'em, mostly, but it is always hard to work when the conditions are not intended for photography.
