Little background, mainly been shooting landscapes but what I really want to shoot is outdoor fashion/portraits and stuff like that.
I was practising on my friend/model yesterday, she changed into 3 different tops, green, red, white. Suny day, shot around noon time because both our scheudles were pretty busy.
Problem:
the white top. fools the camera's metering system. So came to the conclusion, I need a difusser and reflector.
Thought about it some more, wedding photographers shoot brides in their white dresses without reflectors or difussers, unless I recall differently.
I tried +1, +2 -1 EV, hmm didn't work too well. I tried metering the top, exposre perfectly but the face is dark, so I tried fill flash with my 430ex, then tried M mode instead of AV, results wern't consistent. Tried metering for the sky, then stopped down the aperature to try to get the shutter speed to 1/250th in M mode and then used the flash on auto, hmm that didn't work too well.
Any suggestions, tips about this situation with a white top. Tried shooting my gf on an over cast day a few weeks ago wearing a white jacket and the face + jacket were exposed perfectly using just AV mode and no fill flash, no flash and no reflectors or difussers.
Just getting into 'people' pix outdoors and any help would be apperciated. Fortuantly my friend's pretty patient and willing to work with me to improve my techniques.
I'll post some pix shortly (after dropping her off and my hockey game went to shoot sunset with my frineds and then some night city scapes, something i'm much more familar and comfortable with =) )
Much apperciated,
Raymond
