Been browsing around the forum for awhile and I tell ya, I feel like a red-headed step child with my Canon EOS D60!
We bought it in December 2002 - and I have been having a blast with it ever since. 10,000 pictures later, all over England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Luxembourg and now the US, and we're still finding new ways to use it!!!
Our lenses:
Came with a 28-90 standard lens.
Bought:
Sigma 28-90mm Macro (in the shop :( - I think the traveling finally knocked it out of whack. My absolute FAVORITE lens.)
To use whilst the above is in the shop, we bought a Quantaray 28-90mm Macro - but I still like the other one better.
Then a Canon Ultrasonic 75-300mm - but we rarely use it.
AND our favorite zoom, a Sigma 170-500mm
So why do I feel like a red-headed stepchild? I don't see too many people here with one!
Is it a bad camera?
I heard it's discontinued for the 10D - is that right?
How much better is the 10D?
Anyway! Glad to have found this place!
Hope all is well!!!!

Welcome!! You have just arrived at the best forum on the Internet. I'm a Canon-aholic and proud of it.
I have heard great things about the D60, but that was a bit before my time. I was just born last year. LOL

One of the best, if not the best of the insect photographers on this forum uses a D60. Really amazing stuff he comes up with. His username is Megaweb (http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/). I would've bought a D60 had someone not offered to sell me the 10D.

Georgia?... as in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia? We don't get too many Eastern Europeans here.
D60 isn't such a bad camera. It is a little long in the tooth, and it was superseded by the 10D. The 10D more or less cleaned up some of the weaknesses of the D60.
If my D60 were stolen tomorrow, I would replace it with a 10D. Otherwise, the D60 is fine. A little heavy, maybe.

Welcome Erika
This forum is a bit kit-obsessive at times... but then, so am I so it suits me fine. There are loads of D60 users (ex and existine) and D30 users who either haven't had the money or inclination to go for the latest body. I think there will always be someone to answer questions directly about your kit even thought we all dream of a cupboard full of L lenses and a 1Ds (probably 2 or 3).

I guess I have a long ways to go with my D60. Only been in Pennsylvania and NJ. Guess I need to start travelling.

It's not that old technology wise. Sheesh!! you would think it were a Commodore 64. By the way, it's the longer teeth that make it heavier. Better bite too!!

Now don't be stupid. There are no step-childs here. Everybody is welcome, even the DRebel users  Plus, red is a great hair color (especially on a woman)

Be sure to post some of your photos!

Have you looked at the 1.8/50 or 1.4/50? Especially the first one (at around US$ 100 is considered a 'must buy' for Canon DSLR users. It's tack sharp and gives you a lot more possiblities to take low-light photos with its 1.8 aperture.
There are quite some posts in this forum on these lenses

The D60 is by no means outdated.
Sure, the 10D and the 300D are supposed to have better low light focusing and other improvements, but that's technological advance. There are also a lot of users with the D30 here who still love it and will continue to use it for some years to come.
Most likely, the most important advantage of the 10D and now the 300D was that they are sold at a much lower price than the D60, thus enabling a lot more users to get their first Canon DSLR.
If you think about updating, be sure to wait for the Photakina fair this year were - according to most speculations and rumors here - the successor of the 10D is likely to be unveiled.
Anyway! Glad to have found this place!
Hope all is well!!!!
Again ... enjoy it a lot.
Another hint: There are some users (myself included) who *literally* make sessions to read every post on this forum with a title somehow interesting to them for, say, the last 6 months to one year.
Doesn't take *that* much time (maybe two to three afternoons) but will most likely provide you with a wealth of information.
Best regards,
Andy

I guess I have a long ways to go with my D60. Only been in Pennsylvania and NJ. Guess I need to start travelling.
Those are two great place to take pictures! :D Especially in Lancaster and the up and down the Delaware Canal.
I was born in NJ - lived in both PA & NJ for 30 years, then moved to England for a couple of years. That's where we aquired our D60. A Christmas present for my hubby and I in 2002. Which is why it's well traveled ;) I needed to see and record as much of Europe as I could before we moved to Georgia, USA! Not the "Republic of". ;)
Anyway - thank you all for the welcome! This really looks like a fabulous place! I was looking for a photography forum and this was the second one I tried. I had tried another, but the rules were REALLY tight and it seemed too much like jail - so here I am! :D This place looks fun and friendly and it's mostly about Canon - so I figure I will learn to use my camera better!
I visited Megaweb's site. WOW. Wow. You're right. Really fabulous stuff. Just wow.
I've been trying to read a bit of the forum when I can ... and I've already grabbed a deal on some new Flash cards, and learned about the WB trick.
Also, man, you lot are a fabulous bunch of photographers ... though I gotta admit, I kinda look past the "noise" and other tiny things you all pick at - and just see the scenery or the story you were trying to capture. I'm totally impressed.

We will have to take a look for this one. We just paid $90 to get our Sigma repaired, so maybe this fall we'll do some more lens shopping.... :D Hmm...
Thanks again for the welcomes ... looking forward to posting some of my Europe pictures!!!

Perhaps you could remind us of that occaisionally - sometimes the pursuit of excellence can appear geeky!
