I took this today while at Ft Mac in San Pedro, Ca. Didn't realize I caught the guy in the nose bubble watching us.

Wow! That is so amazing!

Curious, are those faint black splotches in the sky dust on the sensor or lens? Or neither?

That's a really great shot! :D

Yes, drisley I can see some dust bunnies too - something all dSLRs suffer from it would seem - even the mighty MarkII ;)

One thing about the shot that does strike me as strange though, (if I am being hypercritical) is the faint "concentric circle" effect visible in the sky on the full size image - seems to be centered around the middle of the picture. :?

You may want to have a look at the original size pic :)

Then you can see the (dust?) spots

Cool shot.... but you should have used a slower shutter speed. Prop airplanes standing in the sky do look kind of funny!

It's not exposed properly. And when I adjusted levels in PS, the noise popped up... I guess it's because it is shot 'to the left'.

Great shot :)

Just compared prices on Mk2

USA $4,475

UK (where I live) equivalent $6,259 (£3,449)

Nearly 1/3 more!

Biko.....there are some pretty good deals on airfare these days.....sounds like time for a US vacation.

Scott

I am truly enjoying the cam. Only complaint so far has been from my wife (who hasn't gotten to use it yet). She has complained that she doesn't get the same shots because of the lack of speed..... Oh well....guess I shouldn't have cancelled my order with CDW.....

I'll post some surf shots later today.

lol
I think that would be quite a long vacation.... waiting until fall to buy a Mark II  (unless, of course, just like the other "camera predators" placed an order since november of last year lol
What if you ordered from the internet? How much tax would you have to pay for it (customs) ?

Probably looking at an extra 25% import duty and tax which still makes it a lot cheaper.

First shot I dont get. Why, what is it? Sorry.
The second one would have been a good shot, if only it was sharper, shots like these need to be razor sharp, especially the eyes! Good composition on the second one and good colors too, though.

Wow! How the heck did you get that nose shot???
I have an EF 100-400mm, shoot in raw with a digital rebel, but my
best wide open shots looks no better than the large edition of yours.
How low was that plane flying?

SnJPhoto

Rick - It was flying a pattern at about 1500-2000 feet I'm guessing (may be way off on this). I didn't see the nose canopy when it flew over. I was shooting a softball game when I heard it and snapped a quick shot of it. The day was very hazy (typical coastal haze).

The plane is the EAA's "Aluminum Overcast" and it flew this weekend at a Long Beach air show.

http://www.b17.org/

You can fly in that B-17 for a mere $350 for a half hour ride. I flew in it when it was up here in Northern California a few years ago. In fact, it will be up here again in May so I better start saving my pennies.

Just as an FYI for the aircraft folks....I heard this am that the Aluminum Overcast did an emergency belly landing at Long Beach airport. I belive it was yesterday. Guess it might be awhile before we see it in the air again.

I guess it's too much to hope that Boeing still carries parts for that thing. Geez, they built enough of them!

That really is sad. Hopefully it's not a write-off.

the landing gear was damaged, hence the crash landing. the good thing, is they will be able to reapir the damage.

planes like this, is always good to see them flying.
