Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help with my query? I've just bought a Canon Ixus 500 and while looking on the various sites have found that it's possible to get anything up to a 1.2GB memory card. Some of these are solid state and some are micro-drive....amazing! Will a micro-drive card work with my camera? What is the highest capacity card that the camera and software can cope with? Thanks in advance

Microdrives (CompactFlash Type II) will not fit into a PowerShot S500. This camera will accept CompactFlash Type I cards up to a capacity of 2048 GB (yes, gigabytes). Of course, that is a thoretical maximum. I think I've only seen these CF cards up to 4 GB.

Blimey!! The camera's fairly future-proof then! Thanks Johnny. And you reckon the camera software is OK with this too, the only reason I ask is because my old Ixus V2 used to baulk at downloading images from a full 256MB card? Thanks again :)

I just bought an S500 and a SanDisc 512MB card from Amazon.com for about $75 shipped free with no tax.
It seemed like a pretty good deal to me. It should arrive in a few days.

The software should be fine with whatever size. I would highly recommend using a USB2 CF card reader though, rather than the camera, to download images from a high-capacity card. It's much faster!

That's a good point JohnnyE! Got any ideas on where to get one cheaply?
Thanks!

Sandisk's USB 2.0 CF reader is really good. You can get it cheap at Amazon, Buy.com, or Best Buy for about $15.

I found one I like and ordered it!
Hopefully I won't need another one ever! It reads 8 formats and is USB 2.0 all for around $30 shipped!

An IXUS500 AND 512MB flash card for $75 ?
Maybe I can afford to upgrade my IXUS400 after all !

I wish! Nope, just the card for $75. The camera was about $425 shipped to my door.

Do we have a MOD around here that can banish these kinds of posts/people?
Please don't post advertisements. We get enough ads without this.
