I'm glad you like it. What was the price with Betty?

So, should one buy IS-version or old one is OK?
I still could not decide which one should I buy.
People were happy with non-IS version for decades.
So I probably would be happy for a while too.
However IS seems to be a cool thing to have.
What do you things folks?

Go for the IS. I thought I'd be happy also, but then used the IS and couldn't go back. Add the 1.4 extender and you you will really appreciate it. If you buy the non IS version, you'll be changing it down the road just like me. Know of anyone looking for a 70-200 2.8 L. I've got one for sale.

I have a 70-200 2.8L NON is. I am very happy with it! Since it is so heavy, I use it exclusively with a tripod, so the IS system would be disabled anyway.

The lens is so fast and bright that you can really see the difference when using it (it's my only "L series" lens). I got mine second hand, so I couldn't choose whether to go for the IS version. At the time I was concerned about not having IS, but the photos that I have got with this lens prove that you don't need 'image stabilisation' to get a very good lens.

Just my view.

I'm looking at buying the 70-200 2.8L IS to replace the 70-200 4.0L I have now. After taking over 2000 pictures with the 4.0L in poor lighting conditions and fast running dogs, I've decided I could use the extra light.

I have a D30 and I was wondering what those with this lens have found the battery life to be? Does it drain the battery a lot more than a non-IS lens would (assuming you are using the IS)? I have 3 batteries now and that is usually enough to get in a day of shooting, although I'm planning on buying a couple of more just so I have plenty of spares if needed.

And does anyone know who has the best legitamate price right now? I usually buy from B&H but do look around for better prices. I bought my EOS 3 from Sammy's Camera and saved about $75 over B&H. If it's only a matter of $25 or so savings over B&H I'll go with B&H because I trust them. But if I can find one and save more than that, I will buy one there.
