Shooting baseball is new to me (first year) and I've only had the 300 for about 8 months, so I'm still learning it. Obviously, the limits are with me..not the lens.

both are sweet, though the first could use a little less of a crop...nice work!

Jeff,
Great shots. I am planning on getting the 300f4IS. I hope this lens can deliver similar results.

I'd say you did a really nice job with that lens. The 300 2.8 IS is on my next lens list.

I had a 300 f/4 IS, which I sold to help finance the 2.8. The 300 f/4 IS is one of Canon's finest lenses. I have regretted selling that lens ever since. I thought I'd need the 2.8 for later afternoon baseball and night-time football.

You will love the 300 f/4...the color, the sharpness, contrast..it is just a superb lens!! I may very well get another one when I can afford it. Yes..it's that good of a lens! Ask anyone who's owned one.

There are three lenses I've bought that I absolutely love! The 300 2.8 IS, the 300 f/4 IS (I don't have at the moment) and the 200 f/2.8.

I can't handhold the 300 f/2.8 IS..and I use a monopod. So far the only bad photos I've taken with it are due to user error. (exposure set wrong, etc)

Did you use the IS when you were shooting these?

Actually, I did not. I had the lens on a monopod, and had high shutter speeds, so I didn't think about using IS.
I'm really wish Canon made a 300 2.8 w/o IS, (meaning..cheaper) because I don't know if it does much good when on a monopod and with high SS.

You can buy a 300mm 2.8 without IS.

New???
Where?

Of course, it's a moot point now...I'm not selling the IS version just to buy a non IS version. I would have like to have known before.:)

I would always buy an IS version if available...not so much cuz you want to use it all the time, but rather cuz if you have it you can turn it on, but if you dont have it you CANT turn it on...

Your shot are excellent, I love having the IS because I shoot mainly handheld.
