I'l preface this by saying I'm completely new to digital photography...photography in general actually and have had the G7 for about a week.
I've been having a great time taking photo's. One of the things I'd really like to exlpore is Macro photography. When I put it in Macro mode (typically while I'm in the foliage setting) it refuses to focus on an extreme closeup of flowers. Flowers are the only thing I've attempted yet. I'd probably have better luck trying another setting or perhaps some of the manual modes but I'm always walking my dog when I'm out and only have one hand to work with. It will not get a focus lock. Any tips very much appreciated.

Try two hands :-)

Manual focus, perhaps with focus bracketing

Back off a bit

Try changing the auto-focus setting to spot or weighted; I haven't had any problem with macro focussing (unless there was a LOT of reflection from a glass surface the object I wanted to shoot was on).

I also have just started using the G7 and I have problems using Macro, mine also hunts for focus and appears to focus but then slips out of focus before taking the shot.

Any idea's please

Cheers

Make sure you have plenty of light, switch the camera to center spot focus mode and it should focus no problem. I have had a little trouble with hunting when there is not enough light. Be sure to hold the shutter button down half way to allow it to focus.
