Not posted much football for a while. So here are a few recent images, with a few 'other' shots thrown in amongst the action, all accompanied by the usual inane wafflings:
Towards the end of the season team managers can be in the firing line...

It was, of course, the hottest April on record...

Meanwhile, some action at sunny old ISO32000...

Sometimes your fate is not in your own hands. Club officials pictured on the phone checking other scores as relegation looms...

Celebrations are in order as well. Photographing them can involve dodging flying fluids and pointing the camera in the right general direction (who needs a viewfinder when you've got a wide angle on)...

Did I mention action? 'At the end of the day', it's determination that wins vital matches...

Another good thing about this time of year is the lovely early evening light...
http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/diff007.jpg
...and it wouldnt be the same without a gratuitous fan cele shot to finish...

Thanks for stopping by.

Great work (as usual) Gavin.
The hoest April on record resulted in my local sides having been having 3 stops per game.
One after 30 minutes-ish, called by the ref to get fluids in. One as usual on 45 minutes (with Oranges quarters and Lucozade:D) and then another on 70 minutes!!

DarrenThanks Darren. Conditions have certainly improved (for players) over the last couple of weeks.... however, I've been soaked on a daily basis!
How do you get so near the ground?Dwight... I just put the camera on the ground and experimented with the angles... nothing more elaborate than that!
Maybe Gavin bought a Canon right angle finder :D
DarrenIt's going to happen soon... next season will be remote-tastic!

Gavin,
I got my 1D MkIII on Saturday morning :)
So far I have only been out playing with it for a couple of hours on Saturday family stuff today
My first thoughts (remember I had a 30D before) is that its great to hold and nowhere near as heavy as I thought it might be. I am going out and about in the morning taking grab shots in Liverpool and the Wirral so will have much better idea then.
The raw files are over 13meg so I will need a supply of 4gig or even 8gig cards! This can only be good for cropping images.I took a couple of indoor shots before to test the ISO qualities and its totally stunning :) at 6400 ISO there is hardly any noise!!
I took the same picture at AV f/4 at 100 ISO it had a TV value of .6s
Changed ISO to 6400 and TV value shot up to 50s
The quality of the picture was amazing :-)
So this camera will be simply fantastic for low light sports events under floolights etc.
My next sports event is the Liverpool Tennis Tournament then followed by quite a few golf tournaments including the Open at Carnoustie.
I will keep you in touch, are you getting one?
Regards

Sporting ImagesThanks for the info Chris... looking forward to seeing some results. The high ISO performance is of most interest to me.
I'll certainly be investing in the MkIII... but may wait a bit longer as I'll need to get a pair of them. When I saw the camera at AJ Purdy a couple of months back, it was noticeable that the control layout and menu functions had changed significantly from the MkII(N) and I like to work with matching bodies... so will bide my time for a month or two, let the price settle down a bit and then I'll dive in!

The controls are so simple simple to navigate through you do not have to hold down two keys to move into any area. Also the "My Menu" option is very useful, all your favourites at just one key press :-)
Best of luck :-)
