sebadoh were a seminal indie band formed when lou barlow was sacked from dinosaur jr (who played on letterman last night, btw) and struck up a friendship w/ fellow lo-fi nut eric gaffney. after the 1st two records, jason lowenstein was recruited, and they were on their way to indie rock stardom.

I love it, Sebadoh is back together!?!?!? I liked these guys back in circa 1991 or so.
Picture #7 is awesome!

Narlus, you shoot some awesome bands...I'm totally jealous. I like the crop in #4, but it might be worth cloning out that drumstick at the bottom. I can't tell, was he looking right at you in #5? Definitely and interesting set.

for #5, i think jason was looking at Lou, who was in front of me. i like how that you can just make out his eyes through his hair. it looked like he lost a decent amount of weight. he was never big, but damn he's like a rail now.
thanks for the comments, it was a fun show esp as it was in their adopted hometown of northampton. i heard that j mascis was there but didn't see him. lou played 'the freed pig' but took great pain to say the song was really about him, and not j.

good eye!
yeah, i have a fairly strict self-imposed limit to just shoot bands i am interested in. the camera policy of clubs around boston is fairly lax, so i don't mind buying a ticket at times i can't get a photo pass.

Quick comment:
Nice motion in #1!
Good set, some a bit too close.

My God that guitar is in worse shape than Willie Nelson's wreck! I am shooting him for the second time Thursday night. I like 6 & 7 but wish they'd looked up in 7.

Nice capture with #1. It can be a challenge to get just the right mix to catch that motion without the whole thing being a blur.
Was anybody on drums when Jason played bass or is he the regular bass player and just hijacked the drums for a song or 2???
Nice looking set.

thanks! i'd like to say i planned that, but it was fortuitous. that was my favorite of the set as well.

jason and eric swapped behind the drum kit pretty regularly, and jason and lou swapped bass a few times. eric didn't play bass, and lou didn't play drums.

Maybe JohnStoy should start a thread, "Show Us Your Most Beat Up Guitar (or Guitarist) in Concert ... Limit to Three Images". The thing that would bother me playing with such instruments is that they might give out completely ... does he have backups?

yeah, there were a few other beat guitars played...lou also played that brown/golden 12 string (w/ only 6 functioning strings), and eric played that purplish-pink gibson copy which he said he bought from a pawn shop for $40.
when i saw sebadoh play in the early 90s, lou was still playing that same beat acoustic w/ electric pickups. amazing the thing is still surviving.
did anyone see Lou play w/ Dinosaur Jr last night on Letterman? i stayed up until 12:30 to watch it, but seeing fellow guest Kirsten Dunst helped keep me awake. :D

#1 is not great for me b/c i am a guitarist and the first thing i look at is: what kind of guitar is it? Oh it has stickers, what do they say (bands, political messages)? etc. So i need detail on the instuments. Plus, since it is so old/beat up it would be nice to see the scratched, the woodgrain, and the stains from gigging for so many years.

Once again Narlus a great set of a great band. #2 would be my pick of the bunch.
Did you get to speak to Lou Barlow at all? I had the pleasure of interviewing him a while ago; helluva nice guy.
My God that guitar is in worse shape than Willie Nelson's wreck!
You crack me up Dwight when you bring comparisons between people like Sebadoh and Willie Nelson...

I don't compare the people, just the instruments! :-) I've some of Willie in the pipeline from Thursday night that'll arrive here soon (after I finish the poker tournament from last week, sigh.) Besides, I am always willing to take responsibility for my musical ignorance.
