Hello, this is my first post here. I was given a photopass from a mate who was headlinind a night at a local venue. Heres a few of my pics from it. Just wanted some tips and advice.
I used a Canon EOS 400D, 50mm f1.8 and ISO 800.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to POTN! Not bad at all, although as Tipsy says many look out of focus. My favorite is #6 (I don't know why we all say which are our favorites!) although it would be nice if he'd pull up his pants (I am old and this "style" doesn't appeal to me.) Is there some reason you did not use ISO1600? Did you feel that you had any problems with focus? Did you autofocus? In any case, please be sure to bring us anything else you shoot ... we always anxious to see what others are doing and offer suggestions ... and watch out for the bullies who want you to do all sorts of fancy RAW multi-processing tricks!

Very nice expression on #1. Pity about the focus...
On #4 it's a pity that the second guy is behind the mic stand.
Not bad for a first time...

Welcome to POTN by the way!

What rene said, but I think 6 is a pretty nice capture as well, even if a bit oof. Over all I think you got some nice shots

i quite like #2, though a little more DOF would have been nice to get his head in focus too. great set!

these are very good 1st gig shots. in addition to the comments already provided, i'd add that you should add some punch to the shots via more contrast. but perhaps that's just personal preference on my part.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
I didn't use ISO1600 because I thought I would get loads of noise?
I mainly used autofocus, was this a no no? The light was very bad in the venue.

Thanks In Advance.

With the XTi and it's tiny viewfinder you've basically got to use AF. I'm not sure if you were using one-shot or AI-servo, but since you shot those with the 50/1.8 I'm guessing you used AI-servo. ISO1600 really does not cause as much noise as you think as long as you expose correctly. Underexposed photos is where noise really shows up.

if you do get noise, you can always noise ninja-fy it.
