I'm thinking of going on a photo safari this week. Just for fun. Any ideas people would like to contribute would be greatly appreciated. So far I've come up with:

1. Geometrical shapes (circle, square, etc.).
2. Something sexy that's not a person.
3. A person doing their job.
4. Nature in an urban setting.
5. Something that represents my neighborhood.
6. Something that represents my state.
7. Something that represents our country.
8. An emotion.

I'm sure there's more, but I'm fishing for really interesting ideas. Thanks in advance for your help folks. :)

It would probably help to know what is your neighborhood and state and what is our country?

Why? ;) I'm in Wisconsin, USA. The northern bits. But I'm looking for other ideas. Shooting ducks on rocks. Or spiders in trees. Or finding guys in purple. Other things that'll make me look around me at my world in a different way that I can then capture with my camera. I'm I explaining the photo safari idea well enough? Just let me know if I'm being clear or not. Thanks!

1. Something that won't be around in another 5 years. This is a particularly good idea for photographers in some suburban areas, where the small stores on Main St. can vanish seemingly overnight, once a Walmart moves into the area. Or where the pond where your grandpa taught you to fish is slated to be turned into the off ramp of a new beltway. Or the Reinhart farm where 50 years of townspeople have gone for fresh produce is likely to be turned into "Reinhart Terrace - A Gated Community for Active People Age 55 and up," now that old man Reinhart has died and his worthless kids and grandkids have inherited the farm.

2. Wind. Mid-spring is often a windy time of year, in many parts of the US. Hats get blown off heads, kites are flown on weekend afternoons. Litter is blown around downtown streets. Sailboats really move across the lake. And so forth.

3. Spring is also a season when lots of animal rescue groups start getting really busy with cats who've recently had kittens, dogs abandoned by college kids who are moving away at the conclusion of the school year, etc. See if you can spend a weekend and a couple of evenings photographing what your local animal rescue/shelter does, complete with lots of photos of cute little animals who are facing an uncertain future. If the pictures are truly good, go write some text to accompany them, then try selling your photo essay to a local magazine or newspaper. If nobody else is interested in it, turn it into a website. Either way, you might help a worthwhile group in your community, or get a few abandoned animals adopted, which is a good feeling.

Becky,

I think with what you've listed you have *more* than enough to keep you busy for a week!! :D

We do something similar (actually, I think we've done a "safari" twice) every weekend, with a particular subject as the focus. The whole idea of the activity is to get people out shooting... to try to exercise our photographic eye.

This was this weeks activity: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=310967

And this is an archive of the past year, complete with a list of suggested topics that haven't been used yet. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603
