I really suck at this kind of photography but I'm looking to improve. :D I've been looking at this when driving through town for months now and finally decided to give it a try. I don't like the composition much on either one. Bryan Peterson's Learning to See Creatively showed up while I was processing these. We'll see if that helps.

Okay, you have a good eye for color. But you haven't in either of these decided first off what you're intending us to see. And secondly, you haven't cropped, and composed so that we MUST see it. I have the feeling that the very business of these scenes fascinated you. And you want to communicate the fascination. It's tough to do. The first lesson taught to writers is, "Limit your topic." And in this case, the large stretch in tonal range from the highlights to shadow could help in that limiting. Since the range was too much for your camera and consequently blew out the highs, then you'd do well to avoid them... or feature them by themselves.

You have done well in capturing scenes that have captured your imagination. Next assignement is to decide what it is that is capturing you, and to zoom in to share that with us in pieces.

Thanks for sharing Dan.
