How to spilt the cases on a A40??

Hi, Girlfriend had her A40 unprotected in her purse and some type of hair gel or something got on the selector knob and now it's froze. How do I get it apart to clean it. I'm very mechanically inclined but it seems theres some screw or something up by the shutter/zoom button area that won't allow it to open up. I don't see any screws inside the battery or CF slot. Am I missing one or is it just stuck because of the hair stuff?

there are 2 srews on both sides and three at the bottom

then open the cf door and you should get the backcover of pretty easy
you have to start opening it from the bottom.
if not it is probably full with the sticky stuff 8)

May I suggest buying a can of contact cleaner before opening it up.

Already had tried contact cleaner. It works for about 5 minutes at a time. once the cleaner evaporates it's hard to turn again.

PS. Still haven't got it apart. Still feels like there something holding it together around the shutter button. Even using a jewelers screwdriver to try and "pry" the case apart won't budge it.

I've got 7 screws removed.

I'm stumped. :?

Ok then, so when you spray it with contact cleaner and it does in fact work up until it evaporates then try a light silicone spray as a lube. I personally wouldn't be too worried about it getting inside the camera.
It has been mentioned by many people, including myself on this forum about the dial being stiff on the A40. Yours happens to be sticking more than the usual.

Thanks for all the help everyone. The case had gel on it also and that's why it wasn't opening easily. I had to pry it open while pressing down in the area where the top tab holds it together.

I posted a "How To" for everyone to explain how to fix the sticky knobs on the A40's.
