Saw this thing when I was getting pics of ice plants & playing with my new macro 100mm. He was just sitting there.... enjoying the vista? pondering plunging to its death? taking a break?

A classic shot. It has brilliant colours, and the insignificant weavil peering up into the huge expanse of flower gives it a further sense of scale.
*polite golf clap*
BTW, why has it only got 5 legs?

That is simply awesome. I mean great.
I can see emotion and thought in a MACRO picture of a BUG, for crying out loud. Elements of John Wayne and the setting sun. Emotions of the future and should I go? It's a big world out there! Look at all that food! Take your pic, that little bug is feeling *something*.
Great shot.

Thanks everyone!
I have to say that the shot makes me think of the old, awful Saturday afternoon horror movies... the ones with really bad special effects for lava, fire balls, and huge creatures.

That is incredible! Great shot!
Guess which lens just jumped ahead of the 300 f/4? Yep, that's the one. After all the fiddling around with extension tubes and such, I think that is the right lens to get for macro.
I'm not certain that it will give me shots like this one, but it will at least give me a fighting chance. :)

Oh no! I've just paid an arm and a leg on stacks of L glass, now I think that my life won't be complete without this 100 mm macro lens.
