Evening all. As ever I'm started to get excited about the annual pilgramige to 24 Heures Du Mans.

As a member of the public, where are the best shooting places?

Over the past 5 or so years I've tried Arnage, Indianapolis, Ford, Porsche and Dunlop, karting track roof areas.

Any other good suggestions, and those sneaky pro photographer places we could possibly sneak one or two from?

Where to shoot at sunset and sunrise?

Best night shots?

Any input would be much appreciated?

Also any motorsport photographers hoping their 1D MkIII will be here in time?

A friend of mine goes every year, and every year I tell him I'll go, and every year something comes up and I just can't afford it!!!

Anyway, here's some of his shots from last year...

Arnage/Indianapolis is tricky due to fences etc

Mulsanne is good, you can shoot from the bank to the apex of the corner if you have enough focal length

Karting garage is good to get them exiting the Porsche Curves

Should be able to get them coming into Ford from the bank

Get some grandstand tickets if you can, pit shots are cool.

I think for the non acredited photog it's a bit of a mission.

I'm staying in Karting Nord this year. Just ordered the Sigma 70-300mm and am trying to pick a tripod to buy at the moment. Fences are a pain, I might have to take a reflective with 'press' on the back of it and see how lucky I get! :P
