Hi,

As a lot of D30 users, I was dissapointed by the results of flash photography using the 550EX. The problems comes from ETTL camera management.

I bought a Metz 54MZ-3 with the adapter (SCA 3102). So I could use it in automode (not ETTL).

Everything is OK if I set the camera in Manual mode (Flash exposure is OK).

But if I want to use Av (I often use Av with flash on for outdoors photos) then the shutter speed is locked Ã* 1/200 (can't go under).

I don't understand why the speed is locked, the flash should'nt care about shutter speed if then speed is under XSynchro.

I need help.
CF 06 is set to 0:auto.

David.

David,

I have the problem with a D60, I guess its just the way the digitals are set up. With my film A2 the camera sets whatever shutter speed is appropriate, not so with the D60. The shutter speed stays locked at 200. Don't know if there is a way of fixing this from Canon but would sure be nice.

I haven't tried this yet, but was thinking of trying to find a hotshoe to PC adapter so you could use a cord into the PC plug on the camera. This would eliminate communication between flash and camera and just fire the flash. Flash would be in auto mode and camera would take care of regular ambient exposure. Of course you would have to manually set f stop on the flash.
Seems to me these kind of adapters are are available, maybe from Metz. I have to check it out.

This method also eliminates the opportunity to use ETTL
If it weren't for this problem the Metz would be the perfect flash with optons for auto , indoors or out, or ETTL.

Use the "high speed" feature of the flash. That will allow shutter speeds up to 1/4000 sec with flash.
