Hello

I am going on safari in Sri Lanka with a little Canon Powershot S3. Rather than paying full wack for an official x1.5 Tele lens I decided to go ebay for a Tele x2 from Japan for only £30 for the S2 (yeah I know a colour clash).

1. Have any of you done the same and if so what is the catch? My biggest concern is that it will not focus.

2. Any tips for Safari photo taking?

I would not try them. Get SONY 58mm VCL-DH1758 tele converter instead . You would be pleased you do. I bought mine just recently.

You could buy from this guy. Pretty quick delivery.

How did you know it would fit into a S3? (sorry I am completely new to Zoom photography having only owned a Ixus 420 for most of my life).

The best of these lenses are not very expensive, so why take a chance on an off beat one that more than likely isn't good. The Sony Al just posted looks like a good deal. Then there's Raynox from Lensmate and other places, or the Canon from B&H. There's too many good ones to take a chance on a "to good to be true" deal. Just my opinion of course.

Information and availability here in the UK is pretty much non existent. £30 = $60 so it is about the same as the Lensmate one. I will post my results but obviously I have nothing to compair it with (...yet).
