Hi All
I hope you can help
Ive just bought a canon G7 and was wondering if my old speedlite 380EX flash was compatible.
It looks a bit big but I also have a Canon" Off Camera Shoe Cord 2" which I could use.
I was told by Canon that this combination was not compatible but the person could not tell me why.
I also read there might be an issue with Trigger Voltage and I don't want to ruin my G7
Any help would be appreciated
Caz

That combination works with all the other G series cameras, I use mine with a G3 and a G6.
I read somewhere that there was a firmware upgrade to solve certain G7 380EX compatibility issues.
I would check on the canon software upgrade site.

The 380EX is made to use with EOS camera's, and the G series camera's are all designed to be compatible with EOS flash's. I suspect the person you talked to didn't really know the facts. I would contact Canon once more, asking the same question. If you get someone that doesn't know, ask to speak to somebody else.
The trigger voltage issue was with older third party flash guns that were made before camera's had more intricate electronics in them.
The 380EX should work fine with your G7.
