I recently purchased a Canon S50 and have been trying to install the camera on my WIN XP PC since yesterday. Yet every time I plug the Camer into the USB slot, the PC detects it and then says that it was unable to install the hardware. Reason?

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take affect.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

I have no idea what that means. I even tried install the drivers manually by downloading them from Canon's site, but to no avail.

Please help!

That's a code 38 for anyone that's wondering.

Do you have a USB scanner hooked up also? If so, it may be caused by that.

Try disconnecting the scanner then restart the computer and reinstall the camera driver.

I know windows can't use two USB scanners at the same time without getting an error due to the UBSscan.sys driver.

Not sure if the OS uses the same driver to identify the camera.
