Is this website fast enough?

Usually it's very fast, although tonight I have had a few lags where Mozilla was waiting for the site. I went to other sites which were fine, so I know it wasn't my connection. But now it seems to be doing great.

That may have been a few minutes window when I did a database backup - that slows things down.

considering what we do here, i'd say it's rather fast indeed.

The only time i notice slowness is when other people are using their servers for pictures.

Nothing moves quickly out here in the desert----except this forum! I can't imagine it being any faster (retrieving images from other servers notwithstanding :lol: )

Overall, I'm very happy with the speed of the forum.

Sometimes, however, it seems to take some time to get loaded in the first place. However ... maybe my proxy server is to be blamed for that.

i cant say i am the largest php bb fan, and i would like this forum to have a more appealing skin and set style, its fully functional to its members and thats all that really matters though

I've experienced some slowness while trying to access the site from work. At home it's pretty good. Of course, faster is always better! :)

It is funny how that works. I didn't even notice the missing name or avatar, I just assumed it was Marie. Now if anyone else starts using purple I'll be lost!

One forum I have been a member for years at is SpeedGuide.net. Ironic that their forum is much slower than this one. At times, our forum here can be a bit sluggish, but for the most part it rocks. And it seems to have improved the last week or so, but maybe that's just me and/or my ISP.

I did some setup tweaking last week when the server ran out of resources. I think they have helped a bit. The speed will increase with new server (waiting for a good deal) with more RAM and MySQL 4 among other things.

About 11:00 GMT the server does some automatic log maintenance which slows it down for half an hour. I also do database backups at least once a day which also eats resources.

Note also that the server reboots apache one minute past every hour which means there is a couple of seconds window when no http connections can happen.
