This past Sunday there was a huge warehouse fire on Chicago's near west side. You can find the complete gallery on Box Alarm Images (http://www.boxalarmimages.com) but these are some of my favorites.

1. The fire buildings upon my arrival. I got to the scene 15 minutes after the first Companies. This fire had already had a very, very long head start.

2. As you can see, there is still not very much water on the fire, but this is very early on. It came out as an automatic alarm. These are false 9 out of 10 times. Engine Company 26 radioed the Fire Alarm Office that they had a "large volume of smoke from the apron of quarters....and we are about two miles away office". That got me out of the house quickly.;)

3. This is one of my favorites......of the last year.

4. X marks the spot.

5. This one too.

6. Sometimes shooting into the sun doesn't suck.

Thanks for having a look everyone.

Love the shots. I love 6 the best, the silohuettes are great. I wish that I had time to do this on the fireground, but unfortunately there is always toooo much work to be done when you're fighting the fire!

#5 for still and #6 for action! Love that ladderpipe operation. It is easier for a dedicated photographer vs. a FF because of the workload at a fire. As long as no one is hurt, working fires are also fun. :D

Nice Mills, I too pick #5 as a favorite. You Chicago guys sure know how to burn a warehouse.

Mills, I thoroughly enjoy your photos. Since I am married to a firefighter, I feel that I can say this "firefighter humor" without being attacked... I love #5, but at first glance, it looks like one of the guys is grabbing the guy beside him's butt! haha The firefighters around here would have a hay-day with that one;)
I respect all of your photos, but especially love the ladder one.

with the fire raging it must be sad to see the old buildings and much loved stonework suffer badly

Yes it is Marie. Devestating, especially if the building has significant history behind it. Thanks. Sometimes beauty can come from destruction. The destruction lasts longer though.
