The object of a light box is to get soft virtually shadowless light. The camera flash adds hard sharply defined shadows. Also, if you are lighting your light box with tungsten lights, like the halogen shop lights so many people are using for light boxes, either the light from the flash will look blue or the light from the light bulbs will look orange.
