bounce vs. direct

direct with the diffuser panel yields good results, but sometimes (with a good ceiling) bounce works better.

since the diffuser is designed for direct flash, the controls flash when the panel is deployed and the flash head is angled upward. In this scenario, can I still control FEC?

Yes, FEC can be adjusted with the flash head either direct or bounced, as long as you're in ETTL mode.

And the wide angle pull out panel is not really a diffuser, it is intended to spread the light outwards to match the wider angle of lens coverage.

If you're looking for a good bouncer for your UWA, check out the big flip-it.

I've got one and it's quite nice with my 10-20.

yes, but how do I control FEC (with wide angle panel out)...if the controls are blinking and it won't let me change it with the dial?

You must be trying to use the wide angle panel and bounce at the same time, which makes the display blink.

Try bouncing without the wide angle panel.

Change FEC before you rotate the flash head up....

since most all of my interior shots are at 10-14mm, I am always looking for the best avail flash coverage. shooting direct, the wide panel supposedly allows coverage up to 14mm. Is that 35mm equiv focal, or would that be 14mm effective with my Xti (1.6 crop factor)? Because shooting at 10mm, it is really 35equiv of 16mm.

And since I bounce the flash sometimes, is the wide angle panel not necc, since the ceiling/wall/etc will spread the flash a lot anyway?
