Hi,
First, I am not sure if this is a camera issue, or if this post should go into Post Processing section. Something has happened the last two times that I have taken pictures with my DRebel that has me stumped. Frankly, I am not too sure if it is the card or the camera that is doing this. Used to, when I download my pictures from the CFcard to my compter (I use Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard), it would be in one "batch" for lack of a better term. Now, it has been divided into two "batches": 150Canon and 151Canon this time. Last time I failed to record what it named the two sections. The first has 47 photos and the 2nd has 7. I wish I had written down exactly what it did the first time. Does anyone know why it has been doing this? Does the CF card need to be reformatted? I always just delete the photos off of the card with the Wizard. Is this the same thing?
Thanks,
Julie

I believe that the Canon Rebel & 10D at least do this on purpose - I believe it's that they're storing only 100 photos per directory, or it's that every image number xx01 starts a new directory.

Lotta "I'm not sure" above... But I do know for a fact that this happens to me all the time - my 1 gig CF card just about always has 2 directories with images, and after a full day of shooting and transferring to my X's Drive I might have 3 or 4 directories if I had a busy day.

So it's planned, but you just have to know to check for all directories on the card.

Mine has always done this, I accepted it as normal for Canon. I always use the format fuction to erase my cards. Gets rid of everything that way. Its like starting with a new card each time.

That's exactly the case. Each folder has a maximum of 100 shots in it, and your camera started with the next number on this shoot, spilling over into a second directory when you hit the next hundred in sequential image numbers. Shoot 400 shots and you'll have 4 or 5 directories.

What I generally tend to do is move the shots into custom named directories later.

First off, I would always format the card in the camera. You are never quite sure what Windows is going to do and how. The few times I used the Windows "Wizards" for downloading there has been one oddity or the other.

Whatever people think of the Canon software, I always use it for downloads and initial RAW conversion. ZBEX reliably puts all images in the appropriate directories by date, which is what I want. Then I close ZB and open PS or whatever I want to continue in. I don't know of any 100 image limit when filed by date and I have certainly shot way more than one hundred images on one day.

Dont forget this! Do it often. I always do it after I upload pics to my laptop. It also makes the card faster since the storage area is "clean"

This is normal as each folder will hold 99 images. If you use aprogram such as downloader pro to download you wil noy 'miss' any images

Thanks for the answer, a load off my mind. The only thing I wonder is, I've taken thousands of pictures and gotten them all off with that Wizard, and it never did the split thing until two times ago?!? But if it is normal then I won't worry about it! I will be careful of the wizard and use the Canon software instead.
Thanks for all the answers.

I've never used the wizard nor the Canon software for transfer of images from the CF card to the computer. No need.

How do you get the images from the card to the directory you want them to go with out using one of those?

Presume Bob means right click and copy/move - treat card as a normal drive (which it is)

Wow - just re-read this - how dare I be so presumptious? Sorry Bob!
