Would any of you nice people be kind enough as to offer me some kind of guide as to what level of remuneration one should request if asked to cover a gig photographically in GB & NI ?

It's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. It depends who you are shooting for, the use of the photos, their budget etc.

Prices I get for shooting gigs ranges from zero to 4 figures. At times I will shoot a gig on spec without any guarantee of payment and then after the event sell photos for some decent money. Yes I do it for money but I also do it because I love it; if I didn't love it I wouldn't be doing it.

I see your point, but there must be some sort of base rate guide, like there is for doing a wedding (ooerr that word makes me feel sick).

i second blackshadow.

There is no base rate, it's dependant on numerous factors:

how long, where, what band, budget, famousness(?) is that a word? who for, intended use....

the list goes on and on and on.

Also your skill, experience and reputation all play a part in what you charge.
