The two years will go fast enough mate.
I can understand your frustration though, I would imagine that they have their reasoning.

Oh, to be 16 again! Nope, not doing it. Worst years of my life waiting to be old enough to do something. :) Well, I'd say the same as above. Good thing time does fly. You have talent, develop some more skill and for some reason, 18 is a magic age and you can do all sorts of stupid things adults do. Enjoy your youngness. It only happens once!

the age limit is probably due to some sort of liability reason. lawyers have everyone covering their rears these days. ill gladly trade you my 37 for your 16? hang in there, 18 is just around the corner. in the meantime enjoy 16 and find something else to shoot.

16 was horrible! 18 is much nicer! - but then you hit 18 and you want to be 21... and then you hit 40, and you want to be 18 again!
I am 19 now, and wouldn't go back to 16 ever....

Your gallery speaks for itself - you have an "eye" and talent.
I know they probably don't want to make an exception for you, because then they would have to make an exception for others - BUT - you were there last year and didn't cause any issues... you have prior experience... Maybe show up in person and talk to one of the head people face-to-face....

Nope don't think so.
40 and a bit now. I might want to be 30 something, but 18 ... no.
Then again, 40 is the new 30, so guess what .... I have everything I want ... god works in mysterious ways.

Hang in there, Dom. I've followed your posts in Motorsports and I was surprised in reading this thread that you were only 16. You have talent, skill, and maturity beyond your years. Yes, it sucks that you are basically being discriminated against because of your age. But, fair, or not, rules are rules. Continue honing your skills, building your portfolio. 18 will be here in no time!

LOL, your thinking like a 16 year old. It's not what you just mentioned, but.. When your a bit older you will learn a few things about life.
a.) An 18 year old is more apt to be a bit more mature and follow the rules better. You still have those raging hormones and most 16 yr olds have the "I can conquer the world" attitude, not all, but most.
b.) your more likely to make a decision based on the moment without thinking about the future reprecussions (sp?). I know I did things at 16 I would dream of now because I can see how dumb I was and could have been injured or injured someone else.
c.) In an adult event like this, adults don't want kids there. They want this adult time and don't want to be looking over thier shoulders for teenagers.
I have nothing against you or teens for that matter, but if I was to go to an event like this I would want to spend my time and money with adults, and ot have packs of teens around. Thats just me. Get used to being treated like a kid until your 18, everyone went through it. Use this time to get the eqipment you need and hone your skills so that when you are 18 your a step ahead of the rest of the pack. Good Luck.

you assuming that the events adults only, its not in fact the events are markected as a family event
your also assuming that the people around me are paying there not in fact where all working for press so we all have a job to do.
the rules are simple stay on your feet dont cross the yellow lines dont walk in front of the BB, dont stand infront of the safty vericals and dont run, you do any ove the above and you get a stern talking to. i have yet to have a stern talking to and in fact i have been compliment on how well and professional i act while photographing

sorry young one.. I remember that age.. and the frustration that came with not being legally old enough to do what I wanted.. the last thing you want to hear is that your turn will come or you just have to wait.. I know you don't want to. Just realize with time comes experience and maturity.. just realize that being an adult isn't all it's cracked up to be.. From bills to working and not having the hours out of the day to do what you want..

This is when your maturity has to come through. A temper tantrum would definitely make you look bad. I work with teenagers and have one. It's hard to accept that you have more to do before you are allowed to do certain things. It doesn't mean you are any less talented. Just have to put in the time like the rest. There have to be accountability and standards in life. Otherwise, teenagers would rule the world and we'd all think we were invulnerable.

Well for being 16 you have one heck of a nice set of gear and there are always things to shoot. So I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I know those years start to go EXTREMELY fast so do not wish to be 18, because it will come in a blink of an eye and then there are other things to worry about!

Name dropping doesn't really get anybody anywhere. I could name the head of employment at a local organisation that promised me a job which has never ever happened. I had a phonecall from the personnel manager saying the manager of the appropriate department would be in touch. He rang and left a message. I retrned the call and had to leave a message. I did that twice and never heard back. Then I called personnel and left a message (about a month later) and had a wierd message left which demonstrated pretty clearly that she had no intention of playing along with the head of employment. It looks like the chief says yes and the tiers of indians below him are suspicious that a spy would be in their midst and are being as deliberately obstructive and hostile as can be.
Anyway, the point is that influential people don't have as much influence as they think they do or as much as they let everybody else believe. I could cite many further examples like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they have an age limit is because of their insurance coverage. Did you have any kind of official recognition last year, or were you under the radar?
An internship's basically an apprenticeship.

Oh, to be young and under 20. My legs used to work and I had a waist. ;)
Enjoy it. If I had the talent and skill, I'd design a killer website with an amazing gallery to show off to those older business people who think I'm just a young thing with a pretty face. :)

I spent half my life getting to eighteen so enjoy it while you can.
I understand your frustration but my advice would be to take advantage of your youth and shoot photos of situations that an ol fart like me wouldn’t and/or couldn’t photograph. Your youth can take you places that my baldhead and fat gut won’t get me into so take advantage of it while you can.
In the mean time keep banging on the door. Seek legal advice and see if you can get a waver to their labiality requirements. It will most likely take your parent’s signature along with a notary seal to basically say if our son gets maimed or killed we won’t sue the snot out of ya.
Good luck!

Please take the time to examine your spelling and word use before you send it off. Take yourself to a higher level and try to stay there...it will work to your advantage. If insurance is the reason they are not letting you work....you might ask them if there is a way to get some form of limited access that will allow you to shoot and still satisfy the insurance folks.

They should accept that your work is very good...and run with that. Like I said...if insurance is the problem, they should just say so and find a way to give you some access, because it looks to me like you have already proven yourself to them as a competent photographer and a responsible young adult.

Shame about the press pass, but I wish I was 16 again!!! Enjoy that age, cause once you graduate high school you might as well jump into retirement. Even though I'm only 19, I feel like life isn't going to be much more fun than this lmao. Photography always keeps my hopes high though. The thought of being pro and making money off of a hobby, or travelling the world, it helps...

Keep it professional and don’t burn any bridges. Don’t ever post a private correspondence on the web without the original authors’ permission. This could come back to haunt you when you are at the age to apply for a press pass.
