Dela Hoya vs Mayweather.

Who are you rooting for? I hope dela Hoya wins!

I just got finished watching the fight. I knew Mayweather would win, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the Golden Boy Dela Hoya. Good fight, but I called either unanimous or split decision in favor of Mayweather at the beginning. Dela Hoya shouldn't have stopped throwing that left jab. Cost him the fight. Mayweather retiring after this bout? Maybe. But I'd like to see a rematch. If not, they both had a good run in the sport and can hold their head high after tonight.

He came out strong in the first several rounds, but couldn't match Mayweather's accuracy. You gotta love Dela Hoya for being a true sportsman. I've always liked his personality and he's still a great boxer. To be able to go toe to toe with Mayweather to begin with commands high respect. Mayweather just landed too many stingers, but nothing potent enough to take Dela Hoya completely out of the fight. I was sad to see Oscar lose this one, but I knew it would happen. :(

Dela Hoya ... but he didn't have the stamina or the accuracy and so helped make Mayweather look better than he was.

Mayweather is a great fighter to begin with. So I'm not sure what you mean by that.

By all accounts, both fighters have had better fights against lesser opponents, yes. But toe to toe, pound for pound, neither one totally got over on the other. They were both pretty meticulous in their stragety, but failed to deliver decisive blows that would've took the other one completely out of the fight. Oscar dipped, dived and deflected a lot of Mayweather's potentially career ending stingers, and Oscar just didn't utilize that devastating left jab to the fullest.

The fight was predictable I thought.
De La Hoya fought exactly how he typically does, and so did Floyd.

I think perhaps Oscar overdid the whole "being agressive" thing. He punched himself out and it is ironic because I remember he made a comment about he was the one with experience in these Mega-fights, yet Floyd was the one who looked in control and never abaondoned his plan. (I'm not much of a fan of either, and Floyd gets on my nerves and his style leaves a lot to be desired, other than the occasional flurry of brilliance)

In the end, I think it was Oscar who was nervous. He abandoned the jab and tried to brawl Floyd, which I guess is the way to go...but as Floyd put it best, 37 have tried, 37 have failed.

Too fast...just too fast.

But I get sooooo bored of watching a boxing match where I KNOW that neither of the fighters could knock his opponent out. This was the case with this fight. We all knew Floyd couldn't really hurt Oscar. We also knew that although Oscar was the stronger fighter, he wasn't going to knock out floyd with his left hook.

However, it was an event...and really this was a fight everyone wanted to see.
