Quite a few Whimbrel passing through the island at the moment. I managed to get some half decent shots in the poor light.
C & C very welcome.

I really like these Pete. The only things that might improve these, IMHO, would be a touch more catchlight in the eye.

spot on with that pose in the first and i would agree with scott the camo works well the the ground colour and rocks.

Cheers for the comments.

I agree Stephen, catchlight makes all the difference. Unfortunately it was overcast conditions so there wasnt any light to catch in the eye. ;)
Im not a fan of putting artificial catchlight in as it looks a bit false when compared with the light in the rest of the shot.
The other alternative would have been to use fill in flash but I didnt want to disturb the birds as they were feeding up while passing through.

I was going to post a couple of shots of Whimbrel that I saw recently. Not a chance now. Superb shots Pete.

I'm not sure it needs it, but another alternative is to use the dodge tool on the existing catchlight, to bring it out a bit more. These look fine to me though if i'm honest. ;)

Great series Pete, catchlight makes no difference to me when the shots are this good. :)

These are all great shots! I'm a big fan of habitat shots that convey a sense of mood and expression, great colors, nicely timed and beautifully composed!:-) I guess this is just my personal preference, but I also like the natural light in these photos, to me, fill flash, unless properly looks very un-natural with washed out colors, same for "artificial" catchlights...just my $.02 ;-)
