So I am on my second dead G7 - yes, that's right, the second one. ok, so the first one died when I was bumped pretty heartily whilst focusing, and the image stabalizer - i assume - simply commited suicide then and there, with the camera cutting out and lens refusing to retract. it was a big bump, but camera was not dropped, so i sent it back to the dealer, who somewhat fishily sent me a new camera but not packaging, cd, etc.
this second G7 was working just fine, then I attempted to power up one morning and got nothing. I recharged the battery and still nothing (the battery is probably fine, because it triggered the happy little green light on the charger after a couple hours of charging). There was no inciting incident at all on this camera's failure; worked, placed on a shelf, did not work.
When I rotate the camera, there is an ominous metallic clinking inside; but a tiny cindy lou who level of clinking. Is that a normal sound that I failed to notice before? I saw one other post referring to others with similar problems, but I couldn't find original postings. Am I simply cursed? Is the G7 fundamentally flawed? (My engineer boyfriend - who was all set to take to the camera with a penknife, i think - thinks connections must be unsound. Which would be gratifying, as otherwise I have some sort of evil anti-camera mojo.)
Advice? Ideas? Sympathetic Canon reps who will take my camera back?
