Consider iWeb, it's super easy to put together a web site.

RapidWeaver from realmacsoftware is one of the best easy to use web design packages.

I actually have a copy of DreamweaverMX but still found myself using rapidweaver instead for my own personal site. It's that good.

Well, I'm an iWeb user but I guess if you know code well the Rapidweaver ticks most people's boxes.:-)

I think you can't easily change the code there either. Same as in iWeb.

I have both programs myself, and both have their pros and cons (I don't know nothing about HTML), but I'm unable to decide which I like better.

I like iWeb because you can kind of "paint" your site just like you want to have it. But you can't add any HTML or Scripts easily. There are tools for that (can't remember the name). You can look for those on Versiontracker for example.

Adding code to it, is very easy with Rapid Weaver. But you can't edit the templates. But there are also tools for that. But these you have you buy also. For RapidWeaver you find also a SimpleViewer plug-in.

Additionally there's a software called Sandbox (I think). I haven't tried that myself. But that should be simliar to RW.

i would idealy like something that alows you to hack apart the html code

and how do you create your own design in rapid weaver?

there are loads of walkthroughs for creating templates in iweb and rapidweaver. I just found making significant changes easier in rapidweaver.

If you really want to be a code junkie then something more substantial like dreamweaver may be a better option.

Sandvox http://www.karelia.com/ is also quite good, I just found rapidweaver to be so easy to get styles and edit them a little bit that I stuck with it. That said I've also been playing with Joomla/Mambo sites alot lately and getting on really well with them. If you want to code and have a good idea of css and a web host that gives you a database then I'd heartily suggest a Joomla based solution

Go for the Adobe Web Design Suite CS3 - I went to a seminar on it last week and it is sensational.

http://www.imagevuex.com/

I use this for my portfolio. And Dreamweaver for the website..

With Imagevuex, you can change the code to your liking...but I'm not that advanced.

I have used dreamweaver for like 10 years and it gets better with every release! Give it a try, you wont regret it!

I just saw that RW had been updated and with the new version it seems to be easier to edit the code, though I'm not sure. Maybe that helps.
