Scottes, that would be sweet even if it weren't a crop. That lens combo is definately sharp.
BTW, nice shot as well.

Excellent Scottes....... I guess a TC is next on my list. I am impressed with the clarity of the combo.

Yes, Vvizard, its a squirrel.
What's really interesting is the reflection in his/her eye. Its like a tiny, precise fisheye lens. Cool.

Yes, it was handheld.
But I *was* resting my elbows on the windowsill.

Funny, I thought it was a flea, too, but I only counted 4 legs. So I have no idea what that is. :)

Cool. I would kill for some loooooong glass =) I just have to peek outside my living-room window, and into the forrest (which starts about 10metres from the wall) I never have to look more than 2-3 minutes before spotting a squirrel. But my 200mm is way to small to get a good shot. Think I buy the Sigma 2x TC and at least get up to 400mm.. Might be worthy to try then :)

WOW!! What a shot, that is outstanding. I am going to sell some clothing or old hand bags so I can buy the TC....LOL

Is that hand-held? I never get anything near that clarity with my 100-400 at full length, much less with the 1.4 TC added.

Do you have to use a canon TC on a canon lens or can you use the Sigma TC's on Canon too?

Thats an increible shot....I am pretty much a novice but hardcore on photography....arent the TC's supposed to cause the image to soften up? That is a nice, sharp image. And its also my future combo
Spectacular handheld, too! :D

I think the image seems so sharp because the squirrel is *so* close - about 10 feet. So the details are quite large in the image. In a long shot a particular detail might be only a pixel wide and softening would show it as 2 pixels and it would be apparent.
I think.
As to handheld... This was handheld, but I was sitting down, braced very well, he was motionless, and IS was on. At that point 1/80 was going to be stable.

actually i was thinking it's a little soft  :( see how soft the eye looks....
Not that i'm particularly going against what everyone else is saying-it's just that anything with detail like hair is soooo easy to get a sharp looking pic of it.I've got pics of puppies sleeping with a super cheap kodak DC3200 that look razor sharp..because of their hair.
this lens and TC are very good but look at other pics as well before judging completely

I think you're ignoring the fact that this is a 100% crop of a much larger image. I'd call it pretty darned impressive, even if it hadn't been a crop. :!: :!:
As to the argument that hair (or in this case, fur) is easy to get a sharp image of, need I point out that for some of us, nothing is easy?
"Did they find you?
"Who?"
"The squirrels."
"What squirrels?"
"The ones that think you're nuts!"
Seemed appropriate somehow.
BTW, squirrels are really cute, but they can be a real pain in the neck.

I do have to agree. This pic looks sharp as hell, but I also think that the hair/fur tends to make it looks sharper because theres no single edge to anything. If I take a picture of something like a flower - let alone a man-made object like a Coke can - then I think you'd see softness along the much more distinct/defined edges.
So I'm going to stick to close-ups of furry things with this combo. :)
