what do you think? 512 MB Ultra II or IBM 1GB Microdrive?

It depends what your priorities are. If you are shooting sports with a lot of burst shooting where you need the buffer to clear quickly then go for the Ultra II. If you are shooting single shots and want high capacity then go for the microdrive.

well I'm doing mostly landscape, animals ... so maybe the MD would be the better solution for me. For me the transfer time to my X's dirve II is the important point. I want to copy from CF/MD to X-drive as fast as possible (saving power on X-drive and dont want to wait )

If saving power on the ****ty-dri... err.. X-drive =D Is the main concern, go for a regular compact-flash card. A MD will drain the X-drive faster, as a MD need extra power for spinning it's own disk-plates, and the extra power is drained from the X-drive's battery.

The extra battery drain applies to the camera side as well - the MD uses the 5 volt tap of the CF slot, where CF cards use the 3 (3.3?) volt tap. Just another consideration... :wink:

The Ultra II will make your 10D faster. It's quite noticable.
